NJCTL Graduate School

NJCTL is a nonprofit founded by NJEA in 2007; a top producer of the teachers and resources needed to provide all students access to K12 & AP science, mathematics, and computer science, and a duly authorized New Jersey Institution of Higher Education on track to accreditation.

NJCTL's Mission is to empower communities of educators and families to lead school improvement, so that all students have access to a high-quality education. On March 23, 2020, NJCTL was granted licensure from the NJ Office of the Secretary of Higher Education to offer the following master's degrees:

• 1. Increase the number of teachers certified teachers prepared to teach science, mathematics, and computer science.
• 2. Increase the number of teachers successfully completing NJCTL online asynchronous courses and programs.
• 3. Increase the number of students successfully completing NJCTL online asynchronous courses taught by their local teachers or NJCTL faculty.
• 4. Develop and promote new teaching methods and the effective use of technology in education.
• 5. Continuously improve NJCTL's live teaching materials and online asynchronous courses.
• 6. Support faculty in their work to design, improve, and deliver NJCTL courses and materials.

• Master of Teaching & Learning and Endorsement Program Outcomes:
•  
• 1. Graduates will effectively implement social constructivist pedagogy in the classroom for the purpose of improved K12 student engagement and understanding.
• 2. Graduates will use formative assessment to guide classroom learning experiences and will provide multiple attempts at summative assessments, if possible, so that students can demonstrate mastery of course content.
• 3. Graduates will demonstrate the effective use of self-reflection and show how they use it to improve professional practice.
• 4. Graduates will demonstrate the effective use of educational technology to improve student learning.
• 5. Graduates will demonstrate content matter competence by passing all course exams with a B or better, as well as passing all required licensure exams.
• 6. Graduates demonstrate research skills and scholarly inquiry and show how they apply these skills to the analysis of various teaching methods.

• Accomplishments
• NJCTL is one of the top nine producers of new physics teachers in the United States, putting NJCTL in the 99th percentile of all US colleges and universities.

• NJCTL opens access to STEM career paths for many students who would otherwise not have it, particularly students who are Black and/or Hispanic and/or live in economically depressed circumstances. http://njc.tl/wh

• NJCTL teachers are as likely to pass the Praxis physics or chemistry exams as non-NJCTL teachers. http://njc.tl/1b1

• Of the teachers who completed an online NJCTL master's degree and/or endorsement program, more than 90% have:
  • Completed the program within 18 months
  • Passed the required Praxis exams
  • Would recommend the program to another teacher

• Since 2010, 399 teachers have completed an NJCTL endorsement program in either physics, chemistry, K12 mathematics, middle school science, or middle school mathematics. Graduates represent 53% women and 24% Black or Hispanic. Of these graduates, 116 have completed the requirements for a master's degree in physics, chemistry or mathematics.

• Ninety-two (92%) percent of endorsement program completers reported that they would recommend the program they completed to another teacher.
