Josef Kariuki grew up in Nairobi, Kenya where he developed a lifelong appreciation for academic excellence as a primary school student. Then he made a bold move and explored new horizons in the U.S. for his college experience. He ended up achieving both a B.A. in political science and a B.S. in biology as a double major at Bucknell University.
Josef’s dedication to public service led him to Newark with Teach for America; after two years with the program, he received his certification to teach both physics and chemistry with the New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning. His exemplary work in teaching AP sciences inspired CTL to hire him as a program manager where he now plays a key role in implementing CTL’s initiatives not only in the United States, but also in training teachers in Africa.
