SMART Notebook Updates Warning

The release of SMART Notebook 16.1 in mid August brought a lot of changes. If you upgrade to version 16.1, you will no longer see the SMART response formative assessment questions in the same manner. The questions will be bundled into “question sets”. In the PSI-PMI pedagogy, we want each formative assessment question to be answered one at a time so that teachers can correct and remediate any errors prior to moving onto the next question.  Therefore, this new version of SMART Notebook (16.1) will not work in a PSI-PMI classroom.  If you download 16.1, and then open one of our presentations, the following will occur:

It will convert all of the formative assessment questions into these questions sets

SMART Responders (LEs, PEs or XEs) will no longer work in version 16.1 or higher

Any diagrams, graphs, equations, etc. associated with a question will not transfer over to the new response format.

Here are our recommendations: If your school has purchased Notebook 16, then you need to only download version 16.0 and not accept any of the updates from that point on. Or, if you have an older version of Notebook (e.g. 11.4, 14, 15), you can continue to use that version without any difficulties. We are working with SMART to eliminate these technology glitches between the original & new response systems. We will provide you with additional information regarding the changes to SMART Notebook as it becomes available.
