Recently, K-8 PMI labs have been linked to material provided by Resource Area for Teachers (RAFT; (www.raft.net). RAFT’s resources include idea sheets for classroom activities linked to the Common Core. RAFT activities are easy to use; have hands-on experience guides; rely on readily available, low-cost materials; and enliven math instruction. Any website visitor can access RAFT links, while registered users can access even more.
Many teachers who use either Progressive Science Initiative® (PSI®) or Progressive Mathematics Initiative® (PMI®) courseware register on the New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning’s (CTL) website because they need access to assessments. Now, registering provides access to other teaching resources as well.
New resources available to registered users vary from unit to unit and can include year-long and unit plans, labs, support materials for labs including supply and equipment lists, study guides, homework options, activities, games, articles of interest, and other online educational resources. Once you are registered, you will see these extra resources posted along the right hand side of the courseware page you select.
Registering is a snap. Go to www.njctl.org. Click the word “Register” on the upper right hand corner of the screen. Complete the form there, using your school’s email address. You’ll get an e-mail with a link to verify your account. That’s all there is too it. Registering is free of charge.
To make sure you are getting everything PSI and PMI have to offer, register. Don’t miss out.
