Physical Environment Course

This course is currently being finalized. We are structuring the course into units around phenomena. There are separate chapters within each unit.

This is designed to be the first course for Middle School. The second course is Living Environment followed by Mathematical Physics.

When will labs and assessments for Hurricanes, and the other 4 chapter´s Teacher Resources be available? Mr. Van the Science Man WPS - Colorado

Melissa Axelsson • 2 years, 12 months agologin to reply

Stuart - we plan on getting the resources posted within the next few weeks for the first two units and then the remaining units will be posted as the school year starts - staying ahead of where teachers would be. - Melissa

Is it critical that students begin with the Physical Environment first and the Living Environment, etc? I have multi-grade classes that stay with me all 3 middle school years, so 1 group pf 6th graders would come in with Physical Environment, whereas the next incoming class would be getting Living Environment, etc. Does 1 year build on the other, requiring to start at Physical, then to Living, then to Math,Physics?

Melissa Axelsson • 2 years, 12 months agologin to reply

Carolyn - There are some things that build on the previous year, but that should not cause too much of an issue. The thing that would be more difficult is the Mathematical Physics. That uses math skills that are specific to 8th grade standards - so a 6th grader or 7th grader would most likely have difficulty with work with equations that are in the materials. - Melissa

My students are loving the Hurricane Unit. I'm hoping to get materials sent to be printed for the next unit. Any ideas when the support materials will be available online for the next unit?

Sarah Fallstich • 2 years, 10 months agologin to reply

Is there a place where Hurricane assessments and labs are posted? Thanks!SarahF

It's better if you're logged in as a teacher so you can see the full resources posted within each chapter. The labs and assessments for each chapter are posted under their respective chapters. Here's a quick summary of each: Chapter 1 is an introductory chapter and has only a presentation. Chapter 2 (States of Matter): There are four assessments associated with this chapter and visible under "Assessment." The labs are integrated in the chapter. Chapter 3 (Density and Pressure) has 1 lab and 4 assessments. Chapter 4 (Heat and Air Flow) had 3 labs and 2 assessments. Chapter 5 is a summary chapter and has only a presentation.

Melissa- Noticed for the unit on Trees it is not posted yet nor is the last unit, just following up to see when they will be completed.

Hello and thank you so much for your interest! The majority of the content has been finalized for Unit 4 and we have begun uploading materials. You can expect all but the labs to be uploaded by the end of this week. Labs for Units 3 and 4, as well as Unit 5 materials are still under revision and will be added as soon as they are ready! We hope that you and your students enjoy the new content being posted.

WIll this content last from February until June?

Melissa Axelsson • 2 years, 8 months agologin to reply

Joseph - right now it is coming out to be about 115 days. We will be reviewing this and adding in some more labs and activities soon so that it will have enough material for the whole school year. - Melissa

I have gone through all 3 courses for middle school and can not find: MS PS2-3, MS PS2-5, and MS ESS1-4. Would you tell me where they are if I have overlooked them? I had to pull up the archived classes to find them. Thank you for your time!

Melissa Axelsson • 2 years, 2 months agologin to reply

Michelle - the standards for MS PS2-3 and MS PS2-5 are both actually found in the 5th grade Forces unit. The MS ESS1-4 are found in three different units. MS ESS1 - Grade 6 Physical Environment Earth-Moon-Sun System MS ESS2-3 - Grade 6 Physical Environment Orbits and Gravity: The Solar System and Universe Chapter MS ESS4 - Grade 6 Physical Environment History and Geology of Earth Melissa

When will the trees labs be uploaded? They don't appear to be on the site?

Melissa Axelsson • 1 year, 9 months agologin to reply

There are a few Labs embedded right in the SMART Notebook presentation for each chapter. There is one lab posted separately for Chapter 2.
